Safety on a school trip will always be our first priority. The accommodation and coaches we use are safety audited on a regular basis to the highest standards – we are assured members of the STF and comply to the code of practice.

In addition, we are pleased to confirm that we hold the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, a government-approved scheme that shows that we offer high-quality and safe teaching and learning experiences. Most Local Authorities recognise this scheme and have agreed that if a provider has the Quality Badge, schools need not further risk assess – it’s all been done for you! To check if your LA has signed up, please click here.

The Government’s ‘Health and Safety of Learners Outside the Classroom’ consultation paper makes it very clear – “For more complex off-site visits the Quality Badge scheme helps you use accredited providers – you needn’t risk assess what’s offered by holders of a Quality Badge”

Safety On A School Trip

We have a number of documents that will assist your planning for a safe trip.

Before booking we advise that you familiarise yourself with both the DfE guidelines (see below) and with our own Safety Management System. Our system was developed with RoSPA (Membership no M60500029). It is constantly reviewed and externally audited, and complies with all current regulations and best practice.

School Travel Forum

The School Travel Travel Company Ltd., is an Assured Member of the School Travel Forum (STF) and in booking with us you can be secure in the knowledge that we:

  • Understand and facilitate the needs of educational travel
  • Have effective Safety Management Systems in place, specifically focused on travelling with young students
  • Offer fair terms and conditions and the best financial security

To ensure our health and safety standards are maintained our systems and procedures are fully audited annually by independent experts.

STF membership is the benchmark for good school tour providers; consequently it is an Awarding Body for the prestigious Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge. (See above.)

The Outdoor Education Advisors Panel (OEAP) endorses the Quality Badge and requests Local Authorities to recommend the use of Badged Providers and require the minimum of additional paperwork where Quality Badge accreditation is in place.

This means that you can book your trip with confidence, meet your due diligence and reduce the amount of External Provider paperwork necessary.

Department for Education

The Department for Education has endeavoured to remove much of the ‘red tape’ surrounding school trips, but does advise that you should travel with an operator who is reputable. The Health & Safety Executive has also produced a document entitled: School Trips and Outdoor Learning Activities – Tackling the Health & Safety Myths.

The School Travel Company has been organising trips for nearly 30 years and is recognised as one of the leading companies in the industry. All of our tours have been developed and and are operated according to standards that match or exceed LEA standards.
