SAFETY AND ACCREDITATION

Safety will always be our absolute priority

Our effective Safety Management System was developed in conjunction with RoSPA (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) and covers all of the key aspects of organising a school trip. Please call us for a free copy. We also monitor our suppliers’ standards and expect them to share the same safety ethos as us.

Memberships And Accreditations

We are assured members of the School Travel Forum, dedicated to promoting best practice and safety in school travel. All full members of the STF adhere to a rigorous code of practice and safety management standards that are externally verified each year by independent Health and Safety consultants.

All our procedures are in line with the Department for Education (DfE) guide “Health and Safety of Pupils on Educational visits” (HASPEV) and our Health and Safety policy covers all aspects of safety on your trip.

School Travel was the first ski operator to achieve the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge Award. One of the quality indicators of the Badge is that we have safety management processes in place to manage risks. We are a fully licensed and bonded tour operator, complying with the bonding requirements of the Association of British Travel Agents, and offering flights protected by Civil Aviation Authority regulations.

Founding Member of School Travel Forum (STF) – Meeting DfE Guidelines

School Travel is a founding member of the School Travel Forum (STF), a group of leading school tour operators who promote good practice and safety in school travel. All full members of the STF adhere to a rigorous Code of Practice and Safety Management Standards which meet the requirements of DfE and are externally verified each year by independent Health and Safety professionals.

During the course of developing the STF Code of Practice, and in addition to liaising with the DfE, advice has been sought from all leading educational Unions and Associations. The STF initiative has the support of the SHA, NAHT, ATL, PAT and is welcomed by the Outdoor Education Advisors Panel (OEAP). The principles on which it is based have the support of the NUT and the NASUWT advises members wishing to organise school trips to use companies that have this type of scheme. Details of the School Travel Forum Code of Practice are available from their website.

Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge

School Travel was the first ski operator to achieve the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge Award. The Quality Badge scheme provides a national accreditation, combining the essential elements of provision – learning and safety– into one easily recognisable and trusted award. One of the quality indicators of the Badge is that we have safety management processes in place to manage risks effectively. The Government’s ‘Health and Safety of Learners Outside the Classroom’ consultation paper makes it very clear that “for more complex offsite visits the Quality Badge scheme helps you use accredited providers – you needn’t risk assess what’s offered by holders of a Quality Badge”. This means a huge reduction in paperwork!
